I am going through something similar with my 7 yr old son. His father is gay and is married to another man. We have never really addressed whether or not he should tell his friends or what he should tell them. Up until this year he on his own chose not to address it with his friends. This year he started opening up and has met with some different responses. His close friends have told him it's disgusting or gross and that was that. One friend told him that his Dad is breaking a law and going to go to jail which was very upsetting to him. I just had to explain that most kids have never heard of homosexuality and that's why they don't understand.

I don't know what the future is going to hold for him regarding his peers and unfortunately we can't control how they are going to react. I plan on just loving him, listening to him and supporting him and hoping that it's enough. As much as we adults hope that kids are going to be understanding and accepting of things that are different, the truth is that kids are kids and there is going to be teasing and bad times ahead. I just hope I can get my son through it as painlessly as possible.
