To directly answer one of your questions, as it was one of mine,
many couples just different variations of mom, mommy, mama etc, or use a mom word, with baba, or 'mom' in another language. One very cute story I read (perhaps on this site) was a lesbian couple with a boy who was very specific about calling one parent mommy, and the other mama.

Also, likely it is not having two mommies that will confuse the child. It would be the influence our media and culture might have on him.

Hope this helps!

We have a seven year old daughter and we have been a family for 5 years. Sometimes she calls out for mom -- we ask which one and she lets us know which one she wants, other times she says Mommy Tara and Momma Krys, but most days we are Tara and Krys. We left it up to her she uses what ever name she thinks is best at that time. Does it drive me nuts that I gave birth to her and she calls me by my first name...yes! But oh well, it could be so much worse. Good luck!

My wife and I have a sixteen month old daughter. She calls both of us momma. She is fully aware that we are both her mothers. She calls me momma-bunk which is my nickname that i have been known by all my life. She calls my wife momma-boo or just momma. I think we should not worry so much about labeling our families for others, they do that too much for us.
