I have heard from hundreds of sons and daughters since I launched my website in June 1999, so finding people I wanted to interview for the book was easy. The hard part was getting people to agree to be involved with the project that would represent a broad range of experiences. Many people responded to the request for participants that I sent via email in summer 2002, but those responses told only part of the story — mostly queer-savvy theory-speaking activists. I definitely need those people in my book, but I also needed to hear from sons and daughters who weren’t culturally queer. After the first round of responses came in, I went through my old correspondence with other “kids” and chose people who had shared stories with me that I thought would help even out the tone of the book.
