Samantha is working on a PhD in Anthropology, studying the new Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine in the United States. She grew up in NYC where she rode around with her father on a tandem, until she decided she was too old to still be cute biking around town with her dad.
Sam continues to be interested in research on families and kinship, especially as new technologies allow for even more diversity in what makes a family. She participated in Families Like Mine because she believes that there is a need for a diverse set of voices in the debate about queer families. She hopes that books like Families Like Mine will make it easier for kids to “come out” on their own about their families. She would not trade her “non-traditional” family for anything.
