“Ex-lesbian” mother has abusive boyfriend.

Q:

I am a 40-year-old mother, currently living with a man for the past three years. Before this, I was with a woman for ten years. I am still very attracted to women and I have dreams about them all the time. This guy is abusive in every way and he is in counseling for anger management. He says he loves me but I am confused about what I want, thinking I can get over this turmoil I feel inside by focusing on what the straight life can provide.

I am unhappy, but I am Catholic and my family would freak Continue reading “Ex-lesbian” mother has abusive boyfriend.

Dealing with a girlfriend’s unaccepting mother.

Q:

I am 22 and four years ago I came out as lesbian to my parents. Let’s just say it didn’t go as planned. I had always been extremely close to my family, but when I told them I was gay, everything changed. I had to get a job to support myself and pay for college. It was a very tough time for me.

Seven months ago I met this really nice girl at work. We started going out as friends. She confessed she liked me as more than friends and by then I was having strong feeling for her as well. Continue reading Dealing with a girlfriend’s unaccepting mother.

Should a transgender parent come out to his kids and their father?

Q:

I am a transgendered man who left my ex-husband two years ago. I left him for other reasons and did not realize — at least, not consciously — that I was transgender until after I left him.

We have two daughters, 4 and 5, who live with him by my choice. I feel that they’re better placed with him than with me, and I visit them regularly. I have made a lot of positive progress in my life since coming out about my gender identity, and just about everybody in my life knows. But I haven’t been able to get up the nerve to come out to my ex. Continue reading Should a transgender parent come out to his kids and their father?

Q:

My partner and I have been together for 11 years and have a set of 19 month twins via surrogacy. My sister recently became “born again” and has accepted their teachings.

In two recent emails she told me that God did not create me this way, and that homosexuality is an example of Satan’s influence in the world. Continue reading How should a new gay dad deal with his born-again sister?

Why is an 11-year-old daughter so angry around her transgender dad?

Q:

My friend was married to a gentleman, and they had two daughters. When the eldest daughter was five years old the father came out, saying that he wanted to be a woman. He changed from being male to being female and then the parents got divorced.

The girls are now nine and eleven years old. They see their dad regularly and when they do, she is dressed as a woman but they still call her “dad.” When the eldest daughter sees her dad she becomes very angry and gets into a mood. Can you explain this please? Continue reading Why is an 11-year-old daughter so angry around her transgender dad?

How will the “in-laws” react to a religious commitment ceremony?

Q:

My partner of six years and I are planning to go to Vermont for a civil union ceremony. We are very close to all the members of his family, and they have always been very welcoming to me.

His parents are very strong Catholics, while Steve long ago rebelled against anything the Catholic Church stood for. I am a very strong Presbyterian. Continue reading How will the “in-laws” react to a religious commitment ceremony?
